The Lyons and Vidalia Recreation Departments 10U girls took part in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 1 Tournament last week, with the Lyons girls taking first place and Vidalia finishing third. The tournament was held at the Ed Smith Complex in Vidalia from June 6 through June 9.

VRD vs. Effingham

Vidalia took on Effingham County in the first game of the tournament. The VRD girls pulled away early and rolled to a 23-1 win over Effingham.

LRD vs. VRD

That victory set up a second-round matchup between the two local squads. Lyons got the better of their rival in this contest, picking up a 14-7 win to advance.

LRD vs. Emanuel

Lyons then took on Emanuel County in the semifinals of the winners' bracket and once again came out on top. They secured a 12-5 win to move into the Championship Game as the only undefeated team.

VRD vs. Effingham

Down in the losers' bracket, Vidalia bounced back to roll over Effingham County 25-5 to keep their tournament hopes alive.

VRD vs. Emanuel

In their following elimination game, Vidalia just couldn't get the bats going. They fell to Emanuel County 28-5, ending their solid tournament run.

LRD vs. Emanuel Championship In the Championship Game, Lyons faced off against Emanuel County once again. Lyons pulled away steadily on their way to an 18-10 win to bring home the district title.

With the win, Lyons moves on to play in the GRPA State Tournament. That tournament will be held next week, beginning on Tuesday in Dalton, GA.
