The Wheeler County Library will kick off its Summer Reading Program with a communitywide dinosaur hunt and a celebration at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26.
The Summer Reading Program is the library’s way of ensuring that kids are continuing to work on literacy and staying engaged and reading, even while on summer break from school. This year’s program has a prehistoric flair, as participants work to “Unearth A Story!”
To celebrate the beginning of the program, the Ocmulgee Regional Library System is hosting a Dino Hunt in the community. This event is open to all ages, and participants have the chance to win family passes generously donated by Shamrock Bowling, Golden Ticket Cinemas, Houston Lakes Cinemas, and Peachy Playtown.
In Wheeler County, dinosaurs may be found at Wheeler County Schools or SunMark Bank. To win the passes, participants should find a dinosaur at these locations, take a picture with the prehistoric creature, and upload it to Facebook using #orlsdinohunt. The more dinosaur photos each participant posts, the more chances they have to win!
This competition will continue through June 26, when the winners are selected.
Meanwhile, on May 26, the library will host a party to give community members the chance to register for the summer reading program and celebrate the beginning of summer. This Kick-Off Party will feature a bounce house, games, activities, and prizes for all, as well as opportunities to register for the Summer Reading Program and get started on all its activities.
These events are free and open to the public. The Wheeler County Library is located at 61 Main Street in Alamo. For more information, call (912) 568-7321.
