Soperton to Receive $1.1M for Hurricane Clean-Up

The City of Soperton is officially set to receive over $1.1 million to pay for the various debris collection companies and trucks that worked to clean up the area in 2024, as U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock has officially signed off on the funding.

According to Mayor John Koon, the City has been aware that the municipality would be receiving the funding but was merely awaiting a U.S. Senator to sign off on the distribution. Recently, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock (D) officially signed off on over $87 million to be distributed to areas in Georgia, including $1,122,112.83 of Category A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding to be paid to Soperton. “That money will come to us and go straight from our hands to debris workers.” Koon explained. “Without the help of these workers, and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and FEMA, we could not have gotten debris cleanup done. This money gave us something to tap into so that we could hire help – cleaning up the city would’ve taken our workers at least 6 years.”

He added, “We’ve been very blessed, and we are so grateful for this help.”
