Montgomery County Schools has officially named Montgomery County Middle School Department of Exceptional Learning Teacher Amber Reid as the district’s interim Special Education Director.
This appointment comes after the tragic loss of former Department of Exceptional Learning Director Alicia Hartley, who passed away on April 29 from injuries sustained in a car accident. Reid was approved to transfer from her current position to the Interim Department of Exceptional Learning Director, as all Montgomery County Board of Education members except Allen Williamson, who was absent from the meeting, approved the change during a called meeting on Wednesday, May 6.
Reid has 30 years of experience working in special education, and has spent 7 of those years investing in students at Montgomery County Middle School. She will oversee operations of the Special Education Department until a permanent Director of Exceptional Learning can be named.
In addition to this change, board members also approved the resignations of Montgomery County Elementary School Teacher Kera Nobles and Paraprofessional Crystal Cerillo. Timothy Scott was hired as a substitute bus driver.
No other actions were taken, and the meeting was adjourned.
