VRD 8U Girls Take 2nd
The 8U Girls Division played in the 62nd Annual Lyons Youth Tournament recently with the girls from Vidalia taking second place.
LRD vs. Emanuel Co.
Lyons first game of the tournament was against Emanuel County. It was a close, high scoring, game with Emanuel coming out on top.
VRD vs. Glennville
Vidalia's first game was against Glennville. Vidalia rolled to an easy win. VRD scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Glennville picked up a run in the bottom of the frame to close the lead to 4-1.
Vidalia added another run in the second inning, with Glennville answering with one in the bottom of the inning. But in the top of the third inning VRD blew the game open as they scored 19 runs. Vidalia had 14 RBI singles and a home run in the inning as their bats were on fire.
In the bottom of the inning VRD held Glennville to just one run as they took the win, 24-3.
VRD vs. Emanuel Co.
In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, Vidalia faced off with Emanuel County. It was a tough game for VRD as Emanuel took the lead in the first inning with four runs. VRD got a run in the top of the second, but Emanuel answered with eight more runs to take a 12-1 lead.
Vidalia plated three in the top of the third, but Emanuel closed the game out with four more runs to take the win, 16-4.
LRD vs. Glennville
Glennville took the win over Lyons in the this game, ending their tournament run.
VRD vs. Glennville
In this rematch between Vidalia and Glennville, Vidalia got the win, but it was a battle. Glennville picked up a run in the top of the first inning, but VRD came back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.
Glennville tied the game in the top of the second inning, and then looked like they had taken complete control as they scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning to take a 13-3 lead.
Vidalia was not to be outdone, though, as they came back with 12 runs in the bottom of the third, putting them back on top, 1513.
Glennville scored six more runs in the top fo the fourth inning as they again took the lead back, 19-15. But in the bottom of the inning Vidalia did just enough as they put five more runs on the board to take the win, 20-19.
VRD vs. Emanuel Co.
Championship In the Championship Game, Emanuel County was too much for VRD. Vidalia plated three runs in the top of the first, but Emanuel answered with three in the bottom half of the frame. Vidalia went back on top in the second with two more, but Emanuel scored 14 runs in the bottom of the inning, as they took a 17-5 lead.
Vidalia did add three more in the third, but Emanuel equaled that as they took the win, 20-8.
Vidalia and Lyons both played in the GRPA District 1 Tournament this week in Effingham County, with the finals being held on Tuesday after presstime.
