Indians Run At Sectionals

The Vidalia High School Indians track & field teams plowed through the 1-A Sectional A Meet at Bleckley County last week, to qualify 26 athletes for the State Meet to be held May 9-10 at Barron Stadium in Rome, Georgia.

With steep competition, the Lady Indians rallied to break the school record in the 4x200m relay with at time of 1:45.06 with the same four ladies that broke the record last season at the Sectional Meet, Kayden Love, Dashia Ford, J'Miyah Hunt and Dreshiya Jackson. Last year's State Champion, Takaiyah Bacon, continues to dominate in triple jump and long jump. Jaydyn Young had an exceptional day in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles as he edges closer to the school record in both events. The boys 4x200m and 4x400m relays turned in season best times and are edging ever so close to the school record as well.

Girls

For the Lady Indians, Takaiyah Bacon will be heading to State in the long jump and triple jump. Dashia Ford will go in the 100m and 300m hurdles, and in the triple jump. Georgia Meredith will head to State in the 1,600m and 3,200m runs. J'Miyah Hunt will go in the 100 and 200m dashes. Zaviyana Walton qualified in the 100m and 300m hurdles. Dreshiya Jackson will go in the 200m dash and in the long jump. Maniyah Phillips is going to State in the shot put and discus. Diedra Boston will go in the shot put, Alana Claxton will go in the high jump, Kayden Love is going in the 100m dash, and Aidyn Driggers is going in the 800m run.

The Lady Indian relay teams also each qualified for the State Meet. The 4x100m team of Kayden Love, Journey Clements, Zaviyana Walton, and J'Miyah Hunt; the 4x200m team of Kayden Love, Dreshiyah Jackson, Dashia Ford, and J'Miyah Hunt; the 4x400m team of Takaiyah Bacon, Jesse Wynn, Aidyn Driggers, and Dreshiya Bacon; and the 4x800m team of Aidyn Driggers, Emilynn Campbell, Jesse Wynn, and Georgia Meredith.

Boys

For the boys team, Jayden Young heads to State in the 110m and 300m hurdles. Cash Driggers is going in the 800m and the 1,600m runs. Tavarius Franklin and Chamlee Evans will both go in the 3,200m run. And Kashun Coney will head to State in the shot put.

Three relay teams will also head to State. The 4x200m team of Jaydyn Young, Adrian Newkirk, Tyler McKinney, and Ja-Marre Wiggs; the 4x400m team of Adrian Newkirk, Jordan Johnson, Jaydyn Young, and Cash Driggers, and the 4x800m team of Jordan Johnson, Roderick Berry, Chamlee Evans, and Cash Driggers.

Coach Mandy Godbee said, “These athletes have had an amazing season, yet they remain focused on the State Meet next week. I am extremely proud of their hard work, effort and diligence throughout the season. This season hasn't come without bumps and challenges but they have persevered and will rally once again next week to perform their very best.”
