Indians Over Country Day


The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team matched up with the Hornets of Savannah Country Day last week in a three-game Region series. The Indians took two or three games as they improved their overall record to 12-12, and they are 4-5 in Region play. They currently sit in fourth place in the Region with this week left in a series with rival Toombs County.
Game 1
The Vidalia Indians Baseball team split the first two games of their Region series against Savannah Country Day.
Game 1 was a pitchers duel with Country Day winning 1-0. Jackson Berry struck out 11 batters and allowed one hit and one run over seven innings while walking three.The only run of the game came in the top of the seventh inning for the Hornets.
Tyler Scott earned the win for Savannah Country Day. The starter allowed one hit and zero runs over six and onethird innings, striking out nine and walking four.
Berry went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Vidalia Indians in hits.
Game 2
In game 2, Ian Moye drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Indians past Savannah Country Day 13-3 on Tuesday. Moye singled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the sixth inning, scoring one. Country Day took the early lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but VHS came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. The Hornets added another run in the top of the third inning, but the Indians blew the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the third inning, VHS loaded the bases, and a walk to Dawson Stewart brought in the first run. Ryan Brantley added an RBI single that scored two runs, and Moye drove in a run for a 7-2 lead. Cayden Nance walked to bring in another run, and then Veer Patel walked to make the score, 9-2. The final two runs of the inning came on a two-run double by Clay Mimbs to make it 11-2.
Savannah did get another run in the top of the fifth inning, but two more from VHS in the bottom of the sixth closed out the win 13-3.
Stewart started on the hill for Vidalia. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking three.
Game 3
VHS also took the final game of the series with a big win on the road on Thursday. In the top of the first inning, VHS plated four runs to jump out ahead. RBI's came from Mimbs, Elon Ryals, and Nance. That put the Indians on top 4-0 heading to second.
In the second inning, VHS added two ore runs, but neither team scored over the next three innings. In the top of the seventh inning, the Indians scored 3 more runs to put the game away. Savannah did score three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. But VHS got the win, 9-6, to take the series.
This week VHS is matched up with Toombs County for their final Region series of the regular season. They played their first game on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. in Vidalia,and will wrap it up on Friday in Lyons at 5:5 p.m.
