The Toombs County High School Bulldog baseball team dropped two games to Washington County last week, and they picked up a win over Pierce County. vs. Washington

On Monday of last week at home, the Bulldogs struggled to get the bats going as they fell to the Golden Hawks of Washington.

The Toombs County Bulldogs battled into extra innings but ultimately fell 5-1 to Washington County on Monday.

Toombs County got on the board in the third inning when Joseph Owens doubled, scoring one run to give the Bulldogs an early lead. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth, when Washington County tied the game on a sacrifice fly.

With the game locked at 1-1 heading into the eighth inning, Washington County broke through with four runs, capitalizing on a fielder’s choice, a bases-loaded walk, and a two-run single to take control.

Toombs could not get anything going in the bottom of the eighth inning as they fell to the Hawks, 5-1. vs. Pierce

Toombs pulled ahead in the bottom of the first inning on a Lawton Toole single that brought in the first run of the game. TCHS added two more on an error, and then a hit by Tyson Brantley put Toombs up 4-0.

Toombs added four more runs in the second inning as Jackson Jenkins drove in a run, Kipp Mosley got an RBI, and then Riley Kersey drove in two runs as TCHS took an 8-0 lead.

That was all the Bulldogs needed. Pierce did score three runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the top of the seventh, but the Bulldogs held on to take the win, 8-5. vs. Washington

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with RBI's coming from Jankins, Mosley, Slade McDonald, and Brody Benton. But in the bottom of the inning, the Hawks closed that lead to 4- 3.

Washington took the lead in the fourth inning with four more runs as they went ahead, 7-4. They added three more in the fifth inning to push their lead to 10-4.

Toombs did plate a run in the top of the sixth, but two more from Washington in the bottom of the frame gave them a 12-5 lead. The Bulldogs scored one more run in the top of the seventh, but that was all they could do as they lost to Washington, 12- 6.

Toombs is now 4-5 on the season. This week they hosted Tattnall County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at Tattnall County at 6:00 p.m. And then on Friday they will be at Pierce County at 6:00 p.m.
