Lady Barons Split With Thomas

The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons softball team faced off against the Thomas University Night Hawks in a difficult conference doubleheader on March 1, at their home field in Mount Vernon. The Barons managed to take game one in a closely contested battle with a score of 6-5 but were unable to take game two. Despite a determined effort, the Barons concluded the game with a 5-3 defeat in windy conditions.
Game one was intense, with both trading scores. Tori Wright leading the Barons' offense, contributing significantly with three hits and scoring two of the team's six runs. Other notable contributors to the Barons' scoring effort included Lexi Bradshaw, Abbey Flowers, Cailiyn Snellgrove, and Abbey Banks. Abbey Flowers also stood out with three RBIs, while Hailey Gabrich added two and Kaylee Odum chipped in one. Kaylee Odum, the starting pitcher, played a pivotal role in maintaining the team's lead and securing the win.
Game two saw valuable contributions from several Barons players including Tori Wright, who brought in one run batted in (RBI). Alyssa Usrey contributed significantly by scoring one run and also driving in another. Additionally, Cailiyn Snellgrov added a run to the scoreboard, and Kaci Paul rounded out the team's RBI contributions with one. Starting pitcher Natalie O'Neal put up a strong fight from the mound, despite the adverse weather affecting the play.
With these results, the Brewton-Parker Barons now hold a season record of 9 wins, 8 losses, and 1 draw. The Barons are looking forward to their next matchup on March 8, 2025, where they will face Indiana Tech at Coco Beach, Fla. in the Space Coast Tournament. The team is determined to bounce back and improve their standing as the season progresses.
