Wheeler Falls To McIntosh

The Wheeler County High School boys basketball team fell to McIntosh County Academy in the first round of the GHSA State Tournament last week to end their season. Wheeler finished the year with a record of 13-10.

Both teams came out of the gate hot as they scored a total of 38 points in the first quarter of action. MCA held a twopoint lead over the Bulldogs at the end of the first, 20-18. In the second quarter, though, the Buccaneers began to pull away as they outscored Wheeler, 25-10. That put MCA on top, 45-28 at the end of the first half.

In the third, Wheeler closed the lead a bit, but they still trailed, 56-42, heading to the fourth quarter. In the final period, the teams kept pace as McIntosh went on to win the game, 72-58.

Wheeler was led by Michael Wright Jr. with 21 points, Tyree Travis added 18 points, and Justin Culver and Reco Wooten each scored 8 in the loss.
