Local, State Primaries to Be Held Tuesday

Voters will be able to cast their ballots for local and state primary and nonpartisan elections from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.

Advance voting has been held for the past two weeks, and will continue until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

Montgomery, Toombs, and Wheeler Counties each have several candidates on the ballot. This election will determine the winner of several nonpartisan seats within the county, as well as each political party’s representative for the partisan elections. Candidates on the ballot include: Montgomery County

• Tax Commissioner: Renae Wooten Perry (R) vs. Loretta Lane (D) • District 1 Commis sioner: Jimmy Pedro Sharpe (R) vs. Angel Gilreath (R) • District 2 Commis sioner: Tim Williamson (R) (Incumbent) vs. Amie Alexandra Vassey (R); Stephanie Love Ivy (D) • District 3 Commis sioner: Ginger Byrd Morris (R) (Incumbent) vs. Charles Greg Palmer (R) vs. Charles “Charlie” Robison (R); Linda Jackson Page (D) • District 1 Board of Education: Henry Price (Incumbent) vs. Richard Michael Lewis • District 2 Board of Education: Susan Beard (Incumbent) vs. Andrea “Margie” Miller vs. Inna N. • Sheri: Randy Rig don (R) (Incumbent) vs. Glenn Giles (R) • Coroner: Ted Mercer (Incumbent) vs. Kandice Day Purvis • District 3 Commis sioner: Keith McNeal (R) (Incumbent) vs. Dustin Shane Purvis (R) Voters in Montgomery County will be able to cast early ballots through Friday, May 17, at the Montgomery County Government Annex, located at 251 S. Richardson Street in Mount Vernon. On Election Day, three precincts will be open – Mount Vernon, at the Montgomery County Government Annex; Higgston, located at Higgston Baptist Church (512 James Street); and Uvalda at Uvalda Community Center, 830 W. Main Street, Uvalda. Voting will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. For more information, contact Montgomery County Election Superintendent Sheila Cheek at (912) 583-2848.

In Toombs County, the polls will open for early voting at 8:30 a.m. each weekday at the Toombs County Courthouse, located at 100 Courthouse Square in Lyons, and will close at 5 p.m. each day. Voters may cast their ballot at their designated precinct. Precincts include New Branch (5174 GA Hwy 178), Cedar Crossing (2926 Cedar Crossing Road in Uvalda), Vidalia Police Department (302 East 1st Street), STI Adult Literacy Building (100 Brinson Street in Vidalia), and Lyons/Partin Park (168 Miot Road). Early voting will be held in Wheeler County at the Board of Elections Office, 16 W. Forest Avenue, Alamo. On Election Day, May 21, voters can cast ballots at the Community Center at 16 W.
