The Toombs County High School boys golf team showcased their skill and determination at the GHSA Area 1AA Championships on Monday, April 29, held at Lakeview Golf Club in Blackshear, GA. Competing against some of the best teams in the area, Toombs County emerged as the Area Runner Up, trailing only behind Pierce County. This commendable finish earned the Bulldogs a coveted spot at the GHSA State Championships, which will take place at Chimney Oaks Golf Course in Homer, GA, in late May. The team posted an impressive combined score of 328, with the four lowest scores contributing to their overall placing. Leading the Bulldogs was Clay Conner, who shot an 80, followed closely by Noah Anken with an 81. Both golfers excelled, earning spots on the All Tournament Team due to their outstanding performances.

Vic Moore also put up a strong showing, matching Anken’s score with an 81, but narrowly missed making the tournament team, which is reserved for the top six golfers by score. Aiden Barton contributed significantly to the team’s success with a score of 86.

Additional team members, Drew Woodruff and Gavin Ward, also turned in solid rounds, shooting 88 and 89, respectively. Their efforts, although not counting towards the team’s final score, demonstrated the depth and potential of the Toombs County lineup. With the State Championships on the horizon, the Bulldogs are set to finetune their skills. The next couple of weeks will be crucial for the team as they prepare to compete on one of the biggest stages in Georgia high school golf. The Bulldogs are not just aiming to participate; they are looking to make a significant impact and vie for the State Title.
