The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team rolled over the Warriors of Tattnall County in a Region series last week. The Bulldogs took all three games and improved their overall record to 11-5, and they are now 5-1 in Region 3AA.

Game 1

The Toombs County Bulldogs (9-5 Overall, 3-1 Region) put on a dominating performance on Tuesday, crushing the Tattnall County Warriors by a score of 9-2. The Bulldogs’ offense erupted with a flurry of runs, while their pitching staff stifled the Warriors’ bats.

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Cameron Ledford singled, plating a run to give the Bulldogs the early lead. The Bulldogs continued to pile on the pressure in the second inning. A single by Brantley Upshaw followed by a dropped third strike by Tattnall County allowed the Bulldogs to extend their lead further.

The game truly broke open in the bottom of the third inning when Trayvone Harris launched a towering home run over the left-field wall, driving in three runs and putting the Bulldogs firmly in control. Harris wasn’t just a force at the plate; he also earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. He pitched five solid innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.

Harris led the Bulldogs offensively, driving in three runs and going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Tucker Braddy also chipped in with two hits and an RBI. The team displayed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Jenkins leading the way with two.

The Toombs County bullpen held the Warriors at bay late in the game. Jackson Jenkins came on in relief and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one batter while walking one.

The Bulldogs’ defense also played a role in the victory, turning a double play to help shut down any potential Tattnall County rallies late in the game.

Game 2

The Toombs County Bulldogs (10-5, 4-1 Region) continued their winning ways on Wednesday, demolishing the Tattnall County Warriors by a decisive score of 16-0. A dominant offensive performance coupled with great pitching secured the shutout victory for the Bulldogs.

Toombs County wasted no time putting runs on the board. In the top of the first inning, a flurry of hits and miscues by Tattnall County allowed the Bulldogs to score a seven runs to take an early lead. Key contributions came from Brantley Upshaw (double), Jackson Jenkins (single), Tucker Braddy (single), Tyson Brantley (hit by pitch), Ryder Sears (single), and a wild pitch that brought a run home.

The Bulldogs extended their lead in the top of the second inning with two more runs thanks to RBI singles by Braddy and Sears, but weren’t done scoring yet. In the top of the fourth inning, they exploded for another seven runs, fueled by a combination of walks, errors, and key hits by Jenkins, Ledford, Braddy, and Brantley.

Tucker Braddy paced the Toombs County offense, leading the team with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. He collected three RBIs and sparked several scoring rallies throughout the game. The Bulldogs put on an offensive clinic, collecting a total of 12 hits. Jenkins, Sears, and Stanley all had multi-hit games. Additionally, the team displayed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks with Harris and Ledford leading the way with three walks each.

TJ Stanley earned the win on the mound for the Dogs. He pitched four strong innings, allowing no runs on just two hits while striking out three and walking two. The defense was equally impressive. They played error-free baseball and turned a double play to stifle any potential Tattnall County threats.

Game 3

The Toombs County Bulldogs (11-5, 5-1 Region) continued their dominance over the Tattnall County Warriors (8-9, 0-6 Region ) with another shutout victory, this time by a score of 11-0 on Thursday. Cameron Ledford led the offensive charge with a stellar performance at the plate, driving in four runs on three hits. Brantley Upshaw was impressive on the mound for the Bulldogs. He tossed a perfect game, flawlessly retiring all 15 batters he faced. Upshaw struck out seven Warriors and did not allow a single hit or walk, showcasing his dominance.

The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the first inning, a double by Jackson Jenkins, followed by a double by Ledford and a hit-by-pitch for Ryder Sears, plated three runs to take an early lead. Cameron Ledford continued his hot streak in the second inning. He ripped a triple, scoring two runs, extending the Bulldogs’ lead further.

The scoring continued in the bottom of the third inning with Brantley Upshaw and Ledford each delivering RBI singles, pushing the score to 8-0 in favor of Toombs County. The Toombs County offense put on a strong showing, collecting 11 hits in the game. Upshaw and Ledford led the way with three hits each, while Ledford’s four RBIs paced the team’s offense. Jenkins also chipped in with two hits. The Bulldogs displayed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Trayvone Harris leading the team with three walks.

With this convincing victory, the Toombs County Bulldogs continue to roll and currently sit atop the Region with a 5-1 record. This week, they will face a tough Appling County team who is currently ranked in the top five in the state. They played the first game of the series on Tuesday at home after presstime. TCHS will be back in action on Thursday in Baxley at 6:00 p.m., and will wrap up the series on Friday at home at 5:45pm. Dates and times could change depending on weather.
