Lady Barons Split 3 Double Headers

The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons softball team played two double headers last week as they faced off with Brenau and Point. vs. Brenau

Brewton-Parker Softball took a mid-week trip to Gainesville, Ga., for a doubleheader against Brenau (Ga.) on Wednesday afternoon. Brewton-Parker (6-2) split the day with the Tigers (5-2) falling 2-1 in game one and taking a 10-3 victory in game two.

Game 1

In the first inning, Alexis Bradshaw produced a leadoff single and was followed up with a double from Tori Wright to score the game's first run. The Tigers tied the game up 1-1 at the bottom of the second inning with a hit and a sacrifice flyout.

After four scoreless innings, Brenau produced two doubles to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to drop BPC 2-1 in game one.

Brewton-Parker led 6-4 in hits. Bradshaw led the team with two hits and one run. Cailyn Snellgrove, Abbey Flowers, and Wright also had hits. Natalie O’Neal (3-1) pitched all seven innings and gathered two strikeouts with two walks while allowing two hits.

Game 2

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Barons picked up momentum with hits from Bradshaw, Destiny Lucas, Wright, and Flowers to take a 3-0 lead. The Tigers gathered their first run in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Wright and Flowers got on base, before Taylor Elliott hit a three-run home to bring BPC’s lead to 6-1. Brenau closed the gap with three doubles, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bradshaw gathered another hit in the top of the sixth and was followed by a walk from Lucas to have two people on base. A hit from Wright brought both runners home for two more runs.

Flowers was walked before Hailey Gabrich notched a hit to bring in two more runs to give BPC a 10-3 advantage. The Lady Barons were able to hang on to the lead after a scoreless seventh inning to take a 10-3 victory over the Tigers.

The Lady Barons led 13-7 in hits with Wright leading with three hits, three runs, and two RBIs. Bradshaw, Lucas, and Flowers all had two hits and two runs. Kira Altman (3-1) pitched six innings, with one strikeout and two walks, while giving up seven hits. vs. Faulkner

Brewton-Parker Softball started their SSAC campaign in Montgomery, Ala. with a doubleheader against Faulkner (Ala.) on Friday. Brewton- Parker (7-3, 1-1 SSAC) split the day with the Eagles (4-2, 1-1 SSAC) taking game one 4-2 and falling in a 10-inning second game, 5-4.

Game 1

After two scoreless innings, the Eagles scored first with a double and a base hit to make the game 1-0. In the fifth inning, Cailyn Snellgrove and Ashley Wilson made it on base, and after a groundout from Alexis Bradshaw, Snellgrove made it home off a shortstop error to tie the game up at 1-. 1.

The Lady Barons took the lead in the top of the seventh inning. A hit from Snellgrove and a walk from Taylor Elliott put two people on bases. Wilson reached on fielder’s choice to make the bases loaded, and Hailey Gabrich hit a two-RBI single to give BPC a 3-1 lead. BryAnn Pound picked up an RBI with a single to first base to bring Wilson home for the fourth run of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Faulkner scored off a double and a sacrifice fly to cut into the lead, but Brewton-Parker was able to hold off the Eagles to take a 4-2 victory.

Brewton-Parker trailed 8-7 in hits. Snellgrove led with two hits and two runs, while Wilson gathered two hits and one run. Abbey Flowers, Pound, and Gabrich also had hits. Natalie O’Neal (4-1) pitched all seven innings and gathered three strikeouts while allowing one walk and eight hits.

Game 2

In the first inning, Bradshaw was walked and stole a base before a single from Destiny Lucas brought Bradshaw home for the 1-0 lead. After a single from Tori Wright, Flowers hit a single to bring Lucas home to give the Lady Barons a tworun lead.

In the top of the second, Pound gathered a hit to get on base and an RBI double from Lucas gave BPC a 3-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning, the Eagles picked up a run off a fielding error from the Lady Barons and a single up the middle to cut BPC’s lead to 3-1.

The fifth and sixth innings were scoreless, and in the seventh, Bradshaw made it on base off a throwing error and a sacrifice bunt from Lucas to put Bradshaw on third base. A ground out from Wright brought Bradshaw home to make the score 4-1. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles gathered four hits and gained three runs to tie the game up at 4-4 and to go into extra innings.

After two scoreless innings, Faulkner picked up a run with a bunt to advance a runner from second to third and a single down the left-field line to bring them home. The Lady Barons dropped game two of the doubleheader 5-4 in 10 innings.

The Lady Barons trailed 11-9 in hits, with Flowers picking up three hits and Lucas had two hits and one run. Wright, Pound, and Alyssa Usrey also had hits. Kira Altman (3-2) pitched 10 innings, with three strikeouts and three walks, while giving up 11 hits. vs. Point

Brewton-Parker Softball continued their weekend on the road with a doubleheader against Point (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon. Brewton-Parker (8-4, 2-2 SSAC) split the day with the Skyhawks (3-11, 1-3 SSAC) winning game one 5-0 and dropping game two 4- 3.

Game 1

The Lady Barons started off with a big first inning as Destiny Lucas picked up a single, and Tori Wright was walked to place two runners on base. Abbey Flowers came up to bat and hit a three-run home run to make the score 3-0.

After a scoreless second inning, Alexis Bradshaw gathered a single, then stole second and third. Bradshaw scored the fourth run of the day off a throwing error from the catcher.

In the fifth inning, Wright gathered a double and was brought home with a double from Alyssa Usrey, to end the game with BPC taking a 5-0 victory.

Brewton-Parker led 13-5 in hits. Wright led with two hits and two runs, while Usrey had three hits. Flowers had two hits and three RBIs, while Bradshaw had two hits. Natalie O’Neal (5-1) pitched all seven innings and gathered two strikeouts while allowing five walks and five hits.

Game 2

The Skyhawks started the first inning of the second game with three hits and two runs to take a 2-0 lead. After two scoreless innings, Flowers hit the second home run of the day to cut Point’s lead to one.

In the top of the sixth inning, Flowers and Taylor Elliott picked up singles and had Rylie Lumley and Paris Russell pinch run for them. Usrey hit a single to bring Lumley home, and Chloe Strickland got Russell home with a single to left field giving BPC a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Point gathered four hits and produced two runs to drop the Lady Barons 4-3.

The Lady Barons trailed 11-9 in hits, with Flowers picking up two hits and one home run and Strickland had two hits. Lucas, Wright, Elliott, Usrey, and Pound also had hits. Kira Altman (3-2) pitched three innings and gave up one walk, seven hits, and two runs. Maeleigh Burns pitched two innings with four strikeouts and gave up two walks, four hits, and two runs.

The Lady Barons will head to Brunswick, Ga., for a doubleheader against Coastal Georgia on February 29, at 2:00 p.m.
