BPC Falls In Final Game

Brewton-Parker Men’s Basketball traveled to Cochran, Ga., to take on Middle Georgia for the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Barons (919, 5-15 SSAC) fell to the Knights (11-15, 7-13 SSAC) in a 75-68 loss.

Zailan Blue broke the game open at the 18:45 mark with a layup before Middle Georgia followed with a pair of three throws at the 16:34 mark while taking a 4-2 lead with 16:03 left in the half. A free throw from Lance Smith and a trey from Blue leveled the score at 6-6 a minute later.

Both teams battled in some short back-and-forth play before the Knights went on a 7-0 stretch to lead 14-8 with 10:22 left to play. For the final nine minutes of play, Brewton-Parker outscored Middle Georgia 2321 and was led by 10 points from Dre Burroughs followed by seven points from Grant Sanders.

For the half, Brewton-Parker shot for 36.4% (12of-33) from the field, 23.1% (3-of-13) from three, and 40% (4-of-10) from the foul line.

Brewton-Parker utilized a three-pointer from Burroughs and a layup from Smith to take a 36-35 lead to open the second half, leaving 17:46 on the clock. After a layup from the Knights, BPC advanced to a 39-37 lead with a trey from Smith moments later.

Another trey from Smith at the 15:44 mark boosted the Barons to a 4238 lead and was followed up by a layup from Sanders for a six-point edge. For the next seven minutes, both teams battled by trading shots until the Knights edged out the Barons on a 12-8 run for a 50-50 ballgame.

Both teams battled back and forth for the following four or so minutes, leveling the game once again for a 60-60 scoreline. BPC was led by three points from Jordan Johnson, Burroughs, and Blue. Middle Georgia closed the game with a 15-8 stretch of scoring with Blue scoring six points followed by two from Kendall Norrington Jr. The Knights secured a 7568 victory, scoring the final five points from the foul line.

Brewton-Parker shot for 38.6% (22-of-57) from the field, 29.6% (8-of-27) from three, and 59.3% (16-of-27) from the foul line. Burroughs led the way with 16 points, shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arch while also snagging two steals on the defensive end of the ball. Blue notched 15 points and was followed by Smith with 13 points and seven assists. Sanders finished with a double- double, scoring 11 and grabbing 11 boards. MGA narrowly edged out BPC 38-37 in rebounds with Sanders and Norrington Jr. both snagging 11 rebounds each.

Brewton-Parker closes the season with a 9-19 overall record and a 5-15 SSAC record.
