BPC Golf Kicks Off Season

Brewton-Parker College Men’s Golf returned to the course this week to kickstart the 2024 portion of the season at the Coastal Georgia Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

The Barons competed in a field of 16 teams and tied for 13th alongside Bethel (Tenn.) with a three-round score of 964 (+100) at the Sanctuary Golf Club in Waverly, Georgia. The course played as a par 72 with the tees set at a total yardage of 7,123 for the two-day, 54-hole tournament. The weather was at play on Monday as rain forced the end of round two to be pushed back to Tuesday morning.

Anthony Cecchin led the way for the Barons in the opening round, starting 2-under after eight holes but slipped down the individual leaderboard after closing the final 10 holes 8-over. Cecchin carded an opening round total of 78 (+6) before improving his game to card a 74 (+2) in the second round.

Both James Dugan and Nicholas Hofmann carded opening-round scores of 81 (+9) before Dugan finished round two with an 80 (+8) and Hofmann with another 81 (+9). Jesper Larsson began with an 82 (+10) but followed up with a 78 (+6) in the second round. Nicholas Browning put together scores of 85 (+13) and 84 (+12) as well to round out the Barons.

As a team, Brewton-Parker finished with rounds of 322 (+34) and 313 (+25) during the first two rounds of play.

Cecchin notched a third-round score of 81 (+9) to finish tied for 45th individually, totaling a three-round score of 17-over. Hofmann and Browning followed Cecchin with 82’s (+10) on day two as Hofmann finished 28-over and tied for 66th while Browning was tied for 78th at 35-over for the tournament.

Dugan completed the 54-hole tournament with a total of 29-over for 68th, carding an 84 (+12) in round three. Larsson finished tied for 69th place with a total score of 30-over, penciling an 86 (+14). The Barons finished the final round of play with a team total of 329 (+41).

As a group, BPC finished with a total of 132 pars and 17 birdies. Cecchin and Hoffman led with 29 pars each while Cecchin notched five birdies and Dugan with four.

Brewton-Parker will compete at the ABAC Invitational on Feb. 26-27, in Tifton, Ga.
