Wheeler Drops 3 of 4

The Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School had a tough week on the hardcourt as their basketball teams dropped three of four games. Wheeler faced off with Bacon County on Friday night on the road in Alma and then were in Soperton to take on the Vikings.

Girls vs. Bacon A big first quarter from Bacon set the tone for the game as they jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first. In the second Wheeler kept up, but the score was 35-16 with Bacon on top at halftime.

In the third quarter the Lady Raiders increased their lead to 4827, and they went on to win the game, 60-30.

Boys vs. Bacon

The boys picked up the only win of the week as they defeated the Raiders on the road. The game was close in the first quarter with Wheeler up by just two, 15-13 at the buzzer. In the second quarter, though, the Bulldogs blew the game open as they outscored the Raiders, 21-6, giving Wheeler a 36-19 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter Wheeler continued to pull away and held a 5122 lead heading to the fourth. Wheeler got the subs in in the final quarter of the game, but took the win, 59-40 over the Raiders. vs. Treutlen

Wheeler put up a good fight in the girls game, but the Lady Vikings were too much as they took the win over their rival. Treutlen won the contest, 50-41. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-9 on the year and they are 0-3 in Region play.

The boys team also fell to the Vikings. Treutlen took the win, 66-58. The Bulldogs are now 7-2 on the season and they are 2-1 in Region action.

This week Wheeler hosted Hawkinsville on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back on the court on Friday with Bacon County coming to town at 6:00 p.m. and then on Saturday they will host Dooly County at 3:00 p.m.
