Wheeler Boys On A Roll

It was a busy week for the Bulldogs basketball teams of Wheeler County High School last week. They started off with Wilcox County at home on Tuesday, hosted Montgomery County on Friday, and then the Irish of Dublin came to town on Saturday. The girls dropped all three of their games, but the boys won all three of their games.

Girls vs. Wilcox

In the girls game against Wilcox, the Lady Patriots were on top 8-6 t the end of the first period, but in the second they took control as they pulled ahead to a 19-8 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Wilcox increased their lead to 31-10. Wilcox took the win over the Lady Bulldogs 35-19.

Nikita James scored all but two of Wheeler's points as she posted 17 in the loss.

Boys vs. Wilcox

The boys of Wheeler were on top of Wilcox 2016 at the end of the first quarter, and opened up a big lead, 34-22 at the end of the first half.

Wilcox did make a run in the third period as they closed the lead to 43-37, but in the fourth Wheeler held them off to get the win, 61-54.

Girls vs. Montgomery

It was a tough game for the Lady Bulldogs as they took on the #3 ranked Lady Eagles of Montgomery County on Friday night in Alamo.Wheeler did get 18 points from James, but they dropped the game 6327 to MCHS.

Boys vs. Montgomery

The Bulldogs got some revenge for the ladies as they rolled to a win over MCHS. Wheeler jumped out to a 20-3 lead by the end of the first quarter as their defense kept MCHS off the boards. Wheeler extended their lead to 43-9 by the end of the first half, and were in complete control.

With the big lead, the Bulldogs pace slowed in the second half, but they led 58-23 heading to the fourth quarter, and went on to win the game by the score of 60-31.

Girls vs. Dublin

It was the third quarter that spelled doom for the Lady Bulldogs against the Lady Irish. Dublin led the game 8-4 at the end of the first quarter. But by the end of the first half the lead for Dublin was 20-14.

However, in the third quarter the Irish outscored the Bulldogs, 20-2, as they pushed the lead to 40-16. Wheeler dropped the game, 51-25, to Dublin. James led the way with 12 points for Wheeler.

It was a battle between the Bulldogs and the Irish that came down to just one point. Halfway through the third period, the Irish were on top 33-3, but the Bulldogs took the lead at 3433. With 2:30 left on the clock, the Irish had taken back the lead, and were on top 42-39, but once again Wheeler went back on top47-44.

Dublin went on a run, and with just under four minutes to play in the game, the Irish were on top, 55-50. The Buldlogs were not done, though, and fought their way to a 62-61 win in the final minutes of the game.

This week Wheeler played against East Laurens on Tuesday after presstime and will not be back in action until the new year.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 0-6 on the year, but the Wheeler boys are 6-0 on the season and are now ranked at #10 in the state.
