75th Wedding Anniversary 75th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Emmitt Gillis will celebrate 75 years together on December 01, 2023. They were united in marriage on this date in 1948.

At the young ages of 21 and 18, their lives crossed paths one afternoon at the Wheeler/Treutlen County bridge, and they have been inseparable since. They married after just six months of dating in Jewell's hometown across the river, Soperton, Georgia.

Together, they built their first home in Wheeler County, and Emmitt began doing what he does best, farming, to support them. In 1963, they adopted their daughter, Lori, and in 1964 they moved to the family home where they have been the past 59 years. It is now known as Gillis Farm.

As members of Beulah Baptist Church, Emmitt served as Deacon and was one of the Charter members. Jewell served as Sunday School Teacher for many different ages and they continued to fill these positions at their current church, Bethel Baptist until they retired. Together, they have been serving the Lord for over 70 years. They are thankful for their many blessings and successes and always give God all the praise and glory.

The love of family is strong in the Gillis home. It's known as The Gathering Place and Jewell has a welcoming open door and kitchen for their family and friends.

Emmitt and Jewell are wonderful illustrations of faith, endurance, loyalty, and love. They teach by example and have strong testaments to share. They understand hard work and tough times, having lived 96 years and 93 years. They have seen many good and bad years, but love has kept them and their marriage strong.

Their favorite pastime these days is caring for each other and re-living their years of joy with each other. These are their combined ' Words of Wisdom' that they believe to be true for a long, happy, and prosperous life together: • Put God ftrst in everything • Pray together • Respect each other • Never lose the passion that you had your first year together • Learn to compromise • Be understanding of each other's needs • Remember patience is a virture • Practice forgiveness • Never, Ever omit romance • Laugh together • Share the load, good and bad • Surprise each other from time to time (it's the little things that mean the most) • Listen and think before you speak • Remind each other every day that you wouldn't change a thing • Love beyond belief Congratulations and here's to an amazing 75 years of love!
