RTCA Softball Splits Games

The Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played two games last week as they were at Edmund Burke in Waynesboro on Monday and then hosted David Emanuel on Thursday. RTCA dropped their game to Edmund Burke but bounced back in a high scoring contest to win over DEA. vs. EB It was a tough loss for RTCA as they fell by just one run to the Lady Spartans. EB got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second inning, and they increased their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth RTCA tied the game at 2-2 with two runs, but the Spartans answered in the bottom of the frame with two more runs to go back on top, 4-2.

RTCA scored one more run in the top of the seventh inning, but they were not able to get any more across as they lost the game 4-3.

RTCA had just three hits in the game with Railee Thomas driving in a run and Arlie Gooden hitting a double. vs. DEA

It was a high scoring game with a total of 28 runs being scored, but RTCA came out on top. DEA jumped out with six runs in the top of the first inning, but RTCA answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-5, DEA, after the first inning.

DEA picked up another run in the top of the second inning, but RTCA jumped out to the lead as they plated five more runs in the bottom of the second inning. That gave the Crusaders a 10-7 lead.

DEA scored two more in the third inning, but eight from RTCA in the bottom of the third put the game away as they led, 18-9. DEA did add one run in the fifth inning, but RTCA took the win by the run rule, 18-10.

Thomas led RTCA with three hits including a home run and three RBI's. Maddie Joyner and Leighton Williams also drove in three runs each. Meredith Durden got the win in the circle.

This week RTCA played Windsor Academy and Thomas Jefferson on Monday and Tuesday after presstime. They will host FPCA on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
