MoCo Grand Jury Indicts Kibbee Shooter

The Montgomery County Grand Jury returned 28 true bills in its session on Monday, August 18, indicting several, including Hunter Blake Kersey.

Kersey is charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault in the death of Mason Mc-Carty. On June 4, at around 7:20 p.m., the GBI was requested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in reference to a shooting that occurred near Jake Mc-Caw Road. The victim was identified as Mason Mc-Carty, 23, of Vidalia, who was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

During the investigation, law enforcement determined that McCarty and Kersey were involved in a confrontation when the shooting occurred. Previously, Kersey claimed that he acted in self-defense, but after further inquiry into the case, the GBI has found evidence to charge Kersey with murder and aggravated assault.

Kersey will now enter a plea and begin his trial process.

In addition to these indictments, the Montgomery County Grand Jury appointed Penny Ennis as a primary member of the County’s Board of Equalization, and Stacie Randolph was appointed as the Board’s alternate member.
