On Thursday of last week Vidalia High School's Jamari Jermon signed his letter of intent to run track for the Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, GA.

Jermon has continued to improve over the past two seasons. Last year he placed 7th in the long jump and 10th in the triple jump at the Region Meet. This season he took 2nd in triple jump and was 6th in the long jump, and was also 3rd in the high jump. In the Sectional Meet he finished 4th in the triple jump and went on to finish 5th at the GHSA State Meet with a jump of 44'2”.

Jermon stated, “I'm just thankful for this. I have to thank my family, my coaches, and everyone that has been there along the way. They all believed in me and pushed me to be better. I plan on majoring in something like psychology, and Truett McConnell is going to be a great place for me to pursue that goal.”

Chief James Jermon added, “Me and the whole family are very proud of him. We are proud of him because he just never quits. His heart is as big as Texas and he just has that drive. The education part of this is what we are most proud of. This is going to help him in life and be big for him down the road.”

Head Coach Mandy Godbee said, “Jamari always wanted to be a jumper for us, but his freshman and sophomore years he was behind some upper classmen that were really good. But he kept working hard, and all of a sudden things just clicked. He has developed into a great jumper, and in just his second year in high jump he has greatly improved and that may be his best event now. We are excited for him and he has big things in his future.”
