BPC Women At SSAC Meet

The Brewton-Parker College women’s track & field competed at the SSAC Outdoor Championship in Mobile, Alabama last week.

Day 1

Brewton-Parker women’s track and field competed in day one action at the SSAC Outdoor Championship in Mobile, Ala. The Lady Barons competed in a total of seven events for the first day of action at the Jaguar Track Complex. As a team, BPC produced four team points to land at eighth out of the nine teams competing.

Destiny Hanna highlighted the day with a fifth-place finish in the 100m race with a time of 11.99s to narrowly earn a NAIA National “B” Standard. She also recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200m race with a time of 25.10s. Jaleah Rhett also competed in the 200m race, finishing in 23rd with a time of 29.43s.

The 4x800m Relay squad finished in seventh as Macy Todd, Jayda Spikes, Yecenia Solorzano, and Kayla Phipps finished with a time of 11:38.62.

As for the jumps, V’Kaylynn Ward earned an eighth-place finish with a mark of 1.39m in the high jump. In the long jump, A’Shanti Surrey led with an eighthplace finish with a mark of 5.22m followed by Hanna in 10th with a jump of 5.04m and Lindsey Oglesby in 12th with a mark of 4.76m.

In the throws, Camille Mendez produced two 12th-place finishes in the discus as well as the hammer. She produced a mark of 24.24m in the discus while throwing for 26.86m in the hammer. Keelie Jordan also competed in the hammer, recording a toss of 21.23m for 14th.

Day 2

Brewton-Parker women’s track and field wrapped up the SSAC Outdoor Championship on Saturday with the second day of action in Mobile, Alabama.

The Lady Barons finished seventh in the team standings with a total team score of 33 points.

Destiny Hanna remained the highlight for the team, earning fifth in the 200m finals with a time of 24.76s and an NAIA National “B” standard. She also produced a sixth-place finish in the 100m finals with a time of 11.89s for an NAIA National “A” Standard.

In the 800m race, Jayda Spikes led with a 15th-place finish by recording a time of 2:51.75. Yecenia Solorzano and Kayla Phipps also competed in the event, earning 19th and 21st, respectively. Macy Todd ran in the 1,500m race, producing a seventhplace finish with a time of 5:33.83. The 4x400m relay team of V’Kaylynn Ward, Spikes, Solorzano, and Todd finished in fifth with a time of 4: 39.94.

For the jumps on Saturday, A’Shanti Surrey led with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.56m followed by Ward in seventh with a jump of 10.23m. As for the throws, Ward recorded 14th in the shot put, tossing a mark of 8.77m. Naomi Taake led the javelin with a ninthplace finish, recording a throw of 22.42m followed by Keelie Jordan in 13th with a throw of 19.22m. Camille Mendez also competed, placing 19th in the javelin.

The Lady Barons are set to compete at the GSU Classic in Statesboro, next Saturday.
