VPD Investigates Shooting

The Vidalia Police Department (VPD) is probing a February 8 shooting that left one man critically injured. Officers responded to the 300 block of Epstein Street at approximately 5:37 p.m. in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Earlvin Alto Simmons, 31, Vidalia, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Simmons was transported to the Air Evac Lifeteam 91-Vidalia headquarters by ambulance, where he was then flown to the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. He remains there in stable but critical condition.

The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information about this incident or any other criminal activity in the city of Vidalia is encouraged to contact Sergeant Shannon Martin with the Investigative Services Division at (912) 537-4123 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 3864480.
