Bulldogs Over Bleckley

The Bulldogs of Toombs County High School matched up against Pierce County and Bleckley County last week. Toombs was on the road for both meetings with the girls falling in both games while the boys picked up a win over Bleckley.

Girls vs. Pierce

The Lady Bulldogs took the early lead and were on top 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. But in the second the Lady Bears got the offense going and outscored Toombs, 16-8, to take a 21-18 halftime lead.

Pierce increased their lead in the third to 32-26. They added to that in the fourth on the way to a 44-35 win over Toombs.

Boys vs. Pierce

Toombs tried to make a late comeback against the Bears but were not able to do so. Toombs had the lead in the first as they were on top 19-13 over Pierce, but just as in the girls game, Pierce stormed back in the second to hold a 30-28 halftime lead.

Pierce pulled away in the third to a 49-38 lead heading to the fourth. Toombs tried to get things going in the fourth, but Pierce took the win, 59-51.

Toombs was led by Mike Polke with 12 points with Dominic Eason adding 10.

Girls vs. Bleckley

Bleckley jumped out to a 9-3 lead over Toombs, but by the middle of the second quarter the Bulldogs had closed that lead to 19-16. Toombs kept it close and was down 25-23 near halftime.

In the third Bleckley was up 32-27. The Royals went up 39-28 and by the end of the third it was 42-30. Bleckley kept it going in the fourth as they pulled away to a 7447 win over Toombs.

Boys vs. Bleckley

Toombs again got out to a fast start as they were up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. Tamarien McArthur and Jesus Quintero hit threepointers early in the second as Toombs was up 33-20 at halftime. In the third quarter the Royals closed the gap to 47-40. In the fourth Quintero and Polke added to the lead with threes as Toombs picked up the win, 63-53.

Quintero led Toombs with 16 points, Demetrius Cutler added 12, and Marion James scored 10 in the win.

This week Toombs was at Brantley County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Metter at 6:00 p.m., and then on Saturday they will be in McRae to take on Telfair County at 3:00 p. m.
