chances at a regular season championship. The Barons (2-11-2, 2-5-1 SSAC) battled but fell short to the top-ranked Roadrunners (14-0-3, 7-0-1 SSAC) in a tough 1-0 defeat on home soil to close out the regular season.

Dalton State produced four attempts toward the goal to open the first 20 minutes of the match, but all four missed the target. Sven De Heij was denied by the Roadrunner keeper in the 29th minute, keeping the match at a scoreless draw. Sven Marnot was tested in the 33rd minute, notching his first save of the match to keep Dalton State from finding the back of the net. The Barons found themselves lucky as the Roadrunners missed a header opportunity that hit off the post which was also in the 33rd minute.

The Roadrunners produced four chances until Landon Brafford’s shot on goal was denied in the 40th minute. DSC outshot BPC 10-2 in the first 45 minutes of play, but the Barons held a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.

In the 56th minute, Dalton State had a great chance at breaking the tie with a shot hitting the crossbar and sailing out of play. Derventz Altidor created himself a chance for Brewton-Parker, recording a shot on goal in the 61st minute. Marnot notched a save in the 65th minute to keep the Barons alive.

In the 71st minute, Dalton State snuck one in the back of the net to secure a 1-0 lead, breaking the draw. DSC held the Barons to no shot attempts for the remainder of the match, securing the win and the regular season title.

The Roadrunners’ attack recorded 19 total shots with three on goal while the Barons recorded just three total shots, all of which were on frame. In 90 minutes of play, Sven Marnot recorded two saves. Dalton State held a dominant 19-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Barons close out the season seventh in the SSAC with a 2-5-1 conference record and a 2-11-2 overall record.
