“It’s always good when your colleagues around the league think highly of your team/program,” Head Coach Steve Edwards said. “We have six players who have been All-Conference selections at different points in their careers. We are talented, but I’m more excited about the camaraderie and the team chemistry we have.” “We believe we have a connected group that’s bought into the right things,” Edwards added. “We look forward to continuing to get better every day. We’re excited to get going and we’re thankful we get a chance to work with this group.” Loyola (La.) was the unanimous choice at the top of the poll with 100 points and all 10 firstplace votes. Faulkner (Ala.) shared second with the Lady Barons with 78 points followed by Mobile (Ala.) and William Carey (Miss.) sharing fourth with 62 points.

Stillman (Ala.) was selected sixth with 49 points with Talladega (Ala.) closely behind with 47 points for seventh. Blue Mountain (Miss.) picked up 28 points for eighth with Middle Georgia securing 27 points for ninth. Life (Ga.) rounds out the poll with 19 points in 10th.

The Lady Barons open the 2022-23 campaign on the road with a pair of neutral site matchups on Oct. 28-29 with the SSAC opener set for Nov. 17 against William Carey in Gillis Gymnasium.

Men “It’s always good to see preseason polls come out for the basketball season; that means we are pretty close to tipping things off,” Head Coach Leonard Epps said. “Our guys have been locked into practice and getting better every day.” Faulkner (Ala.) claimed the top spot in the poll with 120 points and 10 of the first-place votes followed by Stillman (Ala.) in second with 108 points. Mobile (Ala.) landed at third in the poll with 84 points with Loyola (La.) receiving 80 points and the final firstplace vote for fourth.

William Carey (Miss.) captured fifth with 71 points while Dalton State (Ga.) was placed sixth with 67 points. Talladega (Ala.) earned 62 points for seventh with Middle Georgia in eighth with 55 points. Life (Ga.) and Blue Mountain (Miss.) were selected ninth and 10th, earning 35 points as well as 31 points, respectively.

“I think what you see in the preseason poll is pretty accurate based on last year,” Epps added. “We are hard at work to see a huge difference in where people see us preseason and where we end the season. The best thing about college basketball is you control your destiny if you take care of business.”

The Barons open the 2022-23 campaign with a home contest against Paine (Ga.) on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET with the first SSAC matchup set for Nov. 17 against William Carey in Gillis Gymnasium.
