TCHS Ends With Win

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs softball team played their final two games of the season last week as they took on the Bears of Pierce County in Blackshear on Tuesday and then hosted Metter on Wednesday. Toombs fell in the game against Pierce but ended the season with a win over the Tigers of Metter. Toombs finished with a record of 1116-1, and they were 3-12 in Region 3AA where they finished in sixth place.

Vs. Pierce

Toombs County lost the lead in the 6th inning to lose 3-2 to Pierce County on Tuesday of last week. The game was tied at 2-2 with Pierce County batting in the bottom of the sixth when Larson doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Toombs County got on the board in the first inning when Shay Stringer's sac fly scored one run. That gave the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead over the Bears. Pierce bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead 2-1 over TCHS.

In the top of the fifth inning, Toombs tied things up at two. The Lady Dawgs scored one run on a double steal that worked and made it 2-2.

Pierce scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead, and then they held the Bulldogs in the top of the seventh inning to take the win.

Krista Cantwell was on the rubber for Toombs. The righthander went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking zero.

Brinley Miller, Krista Cantwell, and Riley Lumley each managed one hit to lead Toombs. The Lady Dawgs were sure handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.

Vs. Metter It was a big first inning for the Bulldogs that gave them the win in this game. Toombs plated six runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 6-0 lead over the Tigers. Toombs added one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 7- 0. Metter picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning but exploded for five more in the top of the seventh with the Bulldogs holding on to take the win, 7-6, over the Tigers.
