Lady Barons Drop 2 Matches

Brewton-Parker College volleyball returned home to Gillis Gymnasium over the weekend for a pair of matches against SSAC opponents, Faulkner (Ala.) and Mobile (Ala.). On Friday night, the Lady Barons (1-13, 1-6 SSAC) fell 3-0 to Faulkner (13-6, 3-2 SSAC) before dropping Saturday’s match 3-0 to Mobile (13-5, 5-1 SSAC).

The Eagles secured the match in straight sets winning, 25-14, 25-15, and 25-10. In the first two sets, Faulkner took commanding leads early. BPC battled early for the third set, scoring the first 3 points. The Lady Barons held within a pair of scores until the Eagles eventually pulled away to win by 15 points in the final set. Brewton-Parker’s best performance of the match was during set two as the Lady Barons produced a .148 hitting percentage with 7 kills.

Faulkner led the way with 39 kills on a .313 hitting percentage while Brewton-Parker produced just 17 kills. Naomi Taake led BPC with 6 kills and 12 digs while Katy Mathis led with 15 assists. R’Eyahn Shaffer recorded 15 assists for the match. vs. Mobile

Mobile started out fast and never looked back for three straight sets. The Rams took a 1-0 lead with a 25-7 performance in the opening set and followed with back-to-back set scores of 25-11 to secure the sweep over the Lady Barons.

The Rams led with 31 kills on a .274 hitting percentage while BPC produced just 10 kills. Mobile also notched 11 aces on the day and amassed 8 blocks as a team. Taake led Brewton-Parker with 6 kills, Keelie Jordan led with 5 assists, and Kinsley Jordan led with 6 digs.

Brewton-Parker travels to Cochran, Ga. on October 1, to face Middle Georgia at 2:00 p.m.
