RTCA Gets Win In Florida

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders football team made the long road trip to Monticello, Florida, and picked up their first win of the season Friday night over the Aucilla Christian Academy Warriors 36-21.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard first after a Crusaders fumble on their first offensive possession of the game. The Warriors threw a touchdown pass at the 8:25 mark from the 22-yard line. The extra point was good for a 7-0 lead.

RTCA answered with a long 44-yard touchdown run by Jashaun Powell. The 2-point conversion was good for an 8-7 Crusaders lead with 6:59 left in the first period. The Warriors took the lead and scored on an 11-yard run with 1:53 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point try was no good, but Aucilla was on top 13– 8. With just under 10 seconds left in the second period Hayden Kight intercepted a Warriors' pass and took it into the end zone. The Justin Bowers PAT was good, giving the Crusaders a 15-13 lead.

In the third quarter the Crusaders added to their lead when Kight scored his second touchdown of the night, this time on a 60-yard pick-six. Bowers kicked the PAT for a 22-13 lead with 2:45 left in the third.

With 9:55 remaining in the game quarterback T.J. Stanley hit Andrew Tuck from 21-yards out to extend the lead further. The extra point from Bowers was good, putting the Crusaders on top 29-13.

The Warriors scored after a long drive on a 3-yard run. The 2-point conversion was good to cut the RTCA lead to 29-21.

The Crusaders got on the scoreboard for the final time when running back Justin Powell took the ball into the end zone from 20-yards out with just 2:27 left in the game. The PAT was good to make the final score 36-21 RTCA.

RTCA is on the road this Thursday night to face the Portal Panthers with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
