Indians Roll Over Putnam

The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team played host to the Putnam County War Eagles Friday afternoon at Greg James Field. It was the first round of the GHSA State AA Playoffs, and the Indians took care of business in the best-ofthree series to advance to the next round.

Game 1

The Indians came out swinging hot bats and taking advantage of any walks or errors to take easy run rule wins in both games. Game 1 was over in three innings as the Indians won by a score of 16-1. Bryson Whited started on the mound for the Indians surrendering only two hits to pick up the win. The War Eagles got a solo homerun in the second inning for their only score.

The Indians picked up 11 hits, including a leadoff homerun from Whited to get the scoring started. The Indians scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Kevin Cox made a couple of good defensive plays on tricky ground balls at second base to keep the War Eagles from mounting any kind of threat.

Offensively, the Indians were led by Kaleb Bennett's 3-3 performance, which included three runs scored and four RBI's. Graham scored twice, Whited added two RBI's and a run scored, Banks had two RBI's and a run scored, and Caden Spivey had two RBI's.

Game 2

Game 2 took five complete innings, but the Indians again won by run rule by a score of 14-1. Spivey started on the mound for the Indians pitching four innings striking out five, walking none and allowing only a solo homerun in the fourth inning that broke up the no-hitter and shut out. Kevin Cox closed out the game with a scoreless 5th inning. The Indians were again led offensively by Bennett with his fourth and fifth consecutive hits on the day and three RBI's. Spivey added two RBI's and two runs scored, and Walker Moncus added two RBI”s and a run scored.
