Two Charged in Joint Drug Investigations

Two area residents have been charged following joint drug investigations by state and local authorities.

Lavoris Devon Nails, 38, of Vidalia, and Christopher Smith, 33, of Lyons, were arrested March 2 in separate incidents. Nails was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine at his residence located at 1637 Taylor Springs Road in Vidalia while arrest warrants were being served and a parole search was being conducted. During the parole search, agents seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and drug related paraphernalia.

Nai l s is charged with four counts of Sale of Crack Cocaine in Toombs County. Additional charges are pending in Montgomery County. He was booked into the Toombs County Jail. This investigation that led to Nails’ arrest was conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Southeastern Regional Drug Enforcement Office (SRDEO); the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO); the Vidalia Police Department; (VPD) and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision.

In a separate incident, Christopher Smith, age 33, of Lyons, was arrested following a joint drug investigation by the SRDEO, TCSO, and the Lyons Police Department (LPD). During Smith’s arrest, it was discovered that he was in possession of firearms and illegal drugs.

A search warrant was executed at S m i t h’s residence at 254 E. Clifton Avenue, Lot 10, in Lyons, Toombs County, by SRDEO and LPD. During the execution of the search warrant, agents seized two long guns, four handguns along with ammunition, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine/ICE, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, and drug related paraphernalia. Smith is charged with two counts of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Crack Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Firearms During Commission of Certain Crimes. Smith was booked into the Toombs County Jail.

These investigations were conducted by local and state authorities in an effort to make an impact on the current street level drug distribution within Toombs County as well as Vidalia, Montgomery County and to promote a safer place for productive citizens, according to a GBI news release.
