Wheeler Into State Playoffs

The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams competed in the Region 4A Tournament last week. The girls lost their play in game to end their season, but the boys finished in third place in the Region Tournament to move into the State Playoffs.

Girls vs. Wilcox The Lady Bulldogs played against Wilcox County on Tuesday of last week as part of the Region Tournament. Wheeler kept the game close in the first half, but Wilcox pulled away in the second for the win. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Bulldogs were just down by five, 17-12. In the second Wheeler kept pace as they trailed 30-24 at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, though, Wilcox outscored Wheeler 15-7 as they pulled ahead to a 45-31 lead. Wilcox went on to win the game 61-36. Wheeler was led by Mahogany King with 26 points. The Lady Bulldogs ended their season with a record of 2-20.

Boys vs. Telfair

The boys opened up the Region Tournament with the Trojans of Telfair County. It was a close game but the Bulldogs pulled out the win, 65-60over the Trojans. That moved Wheeler on to the next round and ended Telfair's season.

Boys vs. Dooly

Up next for Wheeler was Dooly County's Bobcats. Wheeler put up a good fight but came up just short to the Bobcats. The final score of the game was 63-56 with Wheeler falling.

The loss moved Wheeler into the consolation game and sent Dooly on to the finals against Dublin.

Boys vs. Wilcox

In the consolation game Wheeler faced off with the Patriots of Wilcox County. This again was another close game, but Wheeler came out on top this time. They edged the Patriots 49-43 to secure the #3 seed out of Region 4A heading into the State Playoffs.

This week Wheeler will take on Clinch County on Wednesday on the road at 7:00 p.m. Clinch is the #2 seed out of Region 2A. Wheeler will have to win that game to keep their season alive.
