Indians 5th At State Duals

The Vidalia High School wrestling team was in Bremen last week to take part in the GHSA State AA Duals Championship. VHS had a good showing as they took fifth place as a team. VHS wrestled in the first round against Lamar County, faced Oglethorpe County next, and wrapped up the tournament against Fannin County. vs. Lamar

The Indians got a win over Lamar in the first round, 46-30. At 106lbs Myikel Johnson was defeated for VHS, but at 113 Markeal Crawford took a win by pin. VHS didn't have a wrestler at 120lbs., at 126 Gabriel Hightower won by a 10-5 decision, at 132 Jaylen Lane was by technical fall, and at 138lbs. Javarius Worthen won by pin.

Mason Gabreath lost at 145lbs for VHS, at 152 Chandler Corbett won by technical fall for VHS, at 160 Hunter Manning won by pin, and at 170 Ronald Pointer won by a 7-4 decision. Decarlos Willingham won by pin at 182lbs., Levi Palmer fell at 195, Marcus Dixon lost at 220, but Tommy Walker got the win at 285 by pin for the Indians.

VHS vs. Oglethorpe

In the next round VHS was defeated by Oglethorpe County by the score of 44-27. Johnson lost at 106, Crawford fell at 113, Hightower fell at 126, and Lane lost at 132. VHS got a win at 138 by Worthen by pin, and Galbreath won by major decision 11-1 at 145lbs. Corbett won at 152, and Manning won by pin at 160. Pointer lost by 1 point at 170, Willingham won by pin at 182, but VHS lost at 195, 220, and 285.

VHS vs. Fannin

The last match of the tournament for VHS was in the consolation semifinals against Fannin County. Vidalia gave it a good run, but lost by the score of 39-30. VHS lost at 106lbs., 113, and at 120. The Indians got a win by Hightower at 126lbs. by a 6-2 decision. Worthen won by a 7-6 decision at 138lbs., and then Corbett and Manning did have opponents at 152 and 160. Willingham won by a 10-9 decision at 182lbs., Dixon won by pin at 220, and Walker won by a 5-1 decision at 285lbs. Now VHS will gear up for the Region 2AA Traditional Tournament which is to be held at Toombs County High School this Friday.
