Tough Week For Toombs County

It was a busy week for the Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball teams as they took on East Laurens, Jeff Davis, and Tattnall County. The girls dropped two games with the boys falling in all three.

Girls vs. E. Laurens

It was a close game, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled out the win. TCHS was on top 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. In the second with a 14-13 lead, Aniyah Mckinnon hit a three-pointer to push the lead to 17-13. The Lady Falcons came back, though, and at halftime Toombs was on top 19- 17.

In the third quarter the Falcons took the lead and were on top 31-30 heading to the final period. Toombs came back in the fourth and took the lead. They outscored East Laurens 16-11 in the final quarter to take a 46-42 win.

Boys vs. E. Laurens

The boys game against the Falcons went to overtime before a winner was decided. The Falcons were up 11-9 at the end of the first, but TCHS came back in the second to tie the game at halftime, 24- 24.

In the third and fourth the score went back-and-forth. At the end of the third it was tied, 40-40, and at the end of regulation the score was 49-49.

That sent the game to overtime. In that overtime period the Falcons took the win, 56-54. DJ McKinney led the Bulldogs with 22 points with Brandon Upshaw adding 9 in the loss.

Girls vs. JD

Toombs fought, but came up just short to the Lady Yellow Jackets. Early in the second quarter Toombs was down 13-6. It was 21-13 with Toombs trailing after a threepointer by Jazmin Dasher, but Jeff Davis held a 2516 lead heading to halftime.

In the third quarter Toombs had closed the lead to 29-21, and then it was 37-29 after another three by Dasher. And that was the score at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth Toombs made a run. With the score at 41-35, Ziahya Griffin hit a three to close it to 41-38. But the Lady Bulldogs ran out of time on the comeback as they fell 46-41.

Boys vs. JD

In the boys game against the Jackets, Toombs was down 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. JD increased their lead in the second quarter to 29-22.

Swainsboro kept up the pressure in the third, and led 44-34 going to the fourth quarter. Toombs played well in the fourth, but lost the game 62-52.

McKinney led TCHS with 22 points, and Dominic Eason added 11 for the Bulldogs.

Girls vs. Tattnall

The Lady Bulldogs struggled against the Lady Warriors of Tattnall on Saturday. Tattnall was up 8-3 early and pushed that lead to 17-3. In the second quarter the score was 29-4, and by halftime it was 38-8.

Tattnall continued to pull away in the second half of the game on the way to a 69-17 win.

Boys vs. Tattnall

Th boys kept it a bit closer, but still lost their game against the Warriors. Tattnall got the win, 69-52 over the Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs are 6-8 on the year and 2-5 in the Region, while the boys are 2-13 and 1-6 in the Region. Toombs will play just one pair of games this week as they host Bacon County on Saturday with tip off at 4:00 p.m.
