Holland Signs With Georgia Southern Eagles

Vidalia High School standout pitcher Bailey Holland signed her letter of intent to play softball for Georgia Southern University. On Thursday of last week in the VHS auditorium Holland signed to play Division 1 softball for the Eagles. Holland has pitched for the Indians for two seasons and has put up some incredible numbers. Over that two-year span she had a record of 30-5, and that is including going up against some much higher classification teams in several of the tournaments that VHS plays in each year. Holland pitched 221 innings and gave up just 14 earned runs for an ERA of just .443. She only walked 43 batters while striking out an amazing 314.

Holland was selected as the 2020 Region 2AA Player of the Year, was the 2020 Georgia Coaches’ Association Pitcher of the Year, the 2021 Georgia Dugout Club Player of the Year, 2021 Georgia Dugout Club 1st Team All State, and is the AA Player of the Year for 2021. There will probably be more awards coming over the next few weeks as well.

Holland said, “I am excited for the next chapter. I am thankful for all of the people that have helped to get me here. I am just excited about the culture at Georgia Southern. The coaches are great and I think that I’m going to be a good fit there.

“I have to thank my parents, especially my dad who spent countless hours practicing with me, Coach Beck, Coach Korn, and Coach Ashley for not only working with me but also making me a better person, and all of the other coaches and the community for all of the support that they have given not only me but all of my teammates.”

Her father Shane stated, “We have been going to Georgia Southern softball games for years. This has been a goal of hers once she decided to be a pitcher. I am an alum of Georgia Southern and she has always loved going there for games, and she is going to be close to home, and she has always felt comfortable there.”

Coach Ben Beck added, 'We are really please with the opportunity that she has going to Georgia Southern. It is a testament to the work that she has put in and the kind of teammate that she is. She is a great player, teammate, student, and person, and Southern is getting a great one. She had a lot of offers, but we are excited that she is playing close to home, and we plan to go see her play.'
