Indian Chess Competes

Members of the Vidalia High School and J.R. Trippe chess teams competed at the East Georgia College Scholastic Invitational Tournament, held at the Fulford Center on the campus of East Georgia State College on Saturday, October 9. The Vidalia team won first place and several players placed in the Individual Player category, Sukamar Paidi won all five of his games to earn the 1st place Individual trophy. Eighth-grader Alexander Muzafarov won four games as he placed 4th individually.

Seth MacGregor competed in his first-ever chess tournament and was awarded the 'Tournament Director's Trophy' for his sportsmanship and competitive attitude throughout the tournament. Landry Wheeler and Liam MacGregor also played well in their first tournament as a high school team. The VHS and J.R. Trippe chess teams will participate in more tournaments and matches as they compete against other schools' chess programs.
