Mr. Dewayne Calhoun

Mr. Dewayne “Coon” Calhoun, age 59, of Lyons, died on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. Mr. Calhoun was a lifelong resident of Lyons and a 1980 graduate of Lyons Senior High School. He worked for more than 20 years at Piggly Wiggly Southern Warehouse, later at Robin Builders, DOT Foods and was currently employed at Trane. He was best known for coaching and umpiring at the Lyons Recreation Department with Coach Anson Calloway. He was preceded in death by his wife, April Usher Calhoun; his mother, Faye Cauley Clifton; and 1 sister, Cindy Calhoun Olivarez.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Jessica Calhoun and Holly Calhoun, and his father, Wayne Calhoun and wife Darty, all of Lyons; 5 grandchildren, Trayvone Harris, Cameron Harris, Kaleigha and Aprella Bellevue, and Jaynae Calhoun; 2 nieces, Amanda McCloud and Sarah Rodriguez; and 1 nephew, Jonathan Olivarez.

A private family funeral service was held on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Powell officiating. Burial followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Rooster Edwards, Phillip Edwards, Trent Akins, Michael Thomas, Ivy Toole and Johnny Barnard.
