Big Events For VHS Wrestling

The Vidalia High School wrestling team had wrestlers take part in two different tournaments over the holiday week. Some wrestlers traveled to Kissimmee, FL to wrestle in the Knockout Christmas Classic at Silver Spurs Area. Others went to the Hook'Em Holiday Clash at Lambert High School in Suwanee. The Indians had good showings at both events with Tom Godbee and Jalin Burns placing in Florida with Hunter Manning just outside placing. The Knock Out Classic is one of the toughest tournaments in all of the southeast. Godbee took third place at 197 lbs. Godbee won his third place match over Ryan Cody from The Master's Academy by a 4-1 decision.

At 287 lbs. Burns took fourth place. He fell in the third place match to Ethan Vergara of Mater Lakes Academy by a close 3-2 decision. Manning also had a good showing as he was 2-2 in the tournament and finished just outside the podium. VHS Coach Bobby Blount said, “This is the toughest tournament in the southeast and it certainly lived up to the hype. It was an honor to compete against some of the greatest high school wrestlers in the nation.”

At the Hook'Em Holiday Clash at Lambert VHS again had wrestlers that had good performances. This tournament showcases some of the best wrestlers in the state and gave VHS an opportunity to compete against them.

At 182 lbs. Dawson Campbell placed second and at 195 lbs. DeCarlos Willingham finished third.The team got lots of mat time in the duals on Tuesday and individuals on Wednesday, which will help them as the season progresses.

This week will be another big week for VHS as they will take the short trip to compete in the Sweet Onion Memorial Tournament at Toombs County High School on Friday and Saturday.
