Candidates’ Debate Set for October 1

Candidates for Vidalia Mayor and Toombs and Montgomery County Commissions will be featured in a debate Thursday, October 1, in the Toombs Auditorium at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia. John Koon will moderate the 6 p.m. event. Candidates will respond to questions submitted by area residents.

The debate will include Gregory Johnson and Doug Roper, candidates for the mayoral post; Thaddeus Holloway and Ginger Morris, who are vying for the District 3, Post 1 seat on the Montgomery County Commission; and Wendell Dixon and Dr. Samuel Rayapati, who are competing to represent District 2 on the Toombs County Commission.

The Toombs County Chamber of Commerce is receiving questions from the community for the candidates to answer at the debate. The questions may be submitted to [email protected] through September 28. Seating for the event is limited. Tickets are free and required to achieve social distancing. Masks are also required. Call the chamber at 912-537-4466 to request tickets.
