Tough Loss For RTCA Crusaders

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders football team lost a close game last Friday night at Southwest Georgia Academy. RTCA battled but came up just short, 1614.

The Warriors of SWGA were the first to get on the board when they capped off a drive with a 2-yard run with 3:36 left in the first quarter. They added the 2-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over RTCA.

On the first play of the second quarter, SWGA added another touchdown, again on a short run, to extend their lead. With the 2-point conversion, the Warriors took a 16-0 lead over RTCA.

RTCA finally got on the board after a nice drive in the third quarter of the game. Quarterback Drew Edwards found Blake Durden on a short pass for the score. Hayden Meeks added the extra point to close the lead to 16-7 with 8:34 to go in the third.

RTCA added to their total. Edwards had a big run for 36 yards down to th 4-yard line, and the Crusaders punched it in from there on a run by Jordan Brown. Meeks tacked on the PAT to close the lead to 16-14, but there was just 1:49 left in the game.

RTCA then went for the onside kick with Edwards recovering it at the Warriors' 43-yard line. That gave the Crusaders a chance. Edwards hit Britton Tabor down to the 35-yard line, but then two plays later a fumble by RTCA sealed the win for SWGA.

RTCA is now 3-5 on the year and they are 0-1 in Region play. This week they will host Southland Academy on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for a Region contest.
