RTCA Rolls Over FPCA

It was a tough week for the Lady Crusaders softball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy as they lost 2 out of 3 games last week. RTCA fell to Windsor Academy on Monday in a close onerun game. RTCA bounced back with a big 17-0 win over Fist Preparatory Christian Academy on Tuesday but then lost on Thursday to Pinewood Christian. vs. Windsor

On Monday, the Lady Crusaders faced a tough 9-8 loss against the Windsor Academy Lady Knights. It was a close game that came down to the wire.

Windsor took the early lead with a run in the second and two more in the third inning. But in the top of the fourth inning RTCA came storming back as they plated five runs. The biggest hit of the frame was a base clearing single by Kinsley Kennedy. By the end of the inning RTCA was on top, 5-3.

Windsor came back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 5-5. RTCA went back in front in the top of the sixth inning. Briley Haire drove in a run as did a single by Elin Haygood and an error on Windsor. That gave RTCA an 8-5 lead.

But Windsor rallied in the bottom of the frame to score four more runs and take the lead back, 9-8. RTCA could not get anything going in the top of the seventh inning as they fell, 9-8. vs. FPCA

The Lady Crusaders bounced back in a big way on Tuesday, securing a commanding 17-0 victory over First Preparatory Christian Academy. The offense exploded in the first inning, scoring nine runs. Key hits in the inning came from Annabelle Coe, who singled; Mary Frances Stanley, who was hit by a pitch to drive in a run; Amelia Mercer scored on a sacrifice fly, Anna Kate Joyner walked in a run as did Elin Haygood, and Braylin Pittman drove in two runs with an RBI single. A couple more runs scored on an error as RTCA took 9-0 lead.

The Lady Crusaders added eight more runs in the second inning on five hits. Lizzie Sapp, Anna Kate Joyner, and Mattie Grace Palma all singling as RTCA built up a 13-0 lead. Addison Botelho also doubled, bringing in two runs, with Alayna Wimpey and Kinsley Kennedy walking with the bases loaded to bring in two more. That made the final score 17-0.

Annabelle Coe pitched a strong game, allowing no runs on just three hits and one walk while striking out one. vs. Pinewood

The week concluded with an 11-3 loss to Pinewood Christian on Thursday. Pinewood Christian took an early lead, scoring runs in the first, second, and third innings. RTCA did pick up a run in the top of the third inning, but by the end of the frame the score was, 7-1, with Pinewood in front.

RTCA scored another run in the fifth inning, but Pinewood answered with one. RTCA added another in the top of the sixth inning, but Pinewood scored three in the bottom of the inning to win the game, 11-3.

RTCA is now 10-4 on the season but they are 6-0 in Region play. On Monday of this week RTCA played Twiggs Academy, and then Citizen Christian Academy on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host Brentwood at 5:00 p.m.
