Lady Crusaders Roll Over Trinity

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders varsity softball team fell to the Lady Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson Academy on Monday, but bounced back with a win over the Lady Crusaders of Trinity Christian on Tuesday. vs. TJ

On Monday, the Lady Crusaders fell 8-4 to Thomas Jefferson Academy. The Lady Crusaders got on the board early, with Amelia Mercer singling in the first inning to score a run. However, Thomas Jefferson Academy responded, taking the lead in the second inning with 3 runs.

RTCA picked up a run in the top of the third inning, but the Jaguars answered with 2 more in the bottom half of the frame to extend their lead to 5-2.

TJ plated 2 more runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 7-2, but RTCA came back with 2 in the top of the fifth inning to close the lead to 7-4. Thomas Jefferson added 1 more run in the sixth inning on the way to an 8-4 victory.

Despite the loss, several Lady Crusaders had standout performances at the plate. Amelia Mercer drove in 2 runs, while Elin Haygood and Chesney Burch were forces in the lineup, each collecting 2 hits. The team's defense was sharp, committing zero errors on the day, with Mary Frances Stanley making multiple key plays.

On the mound, Lizzie Sapp started the game for the Lady Crusaders, giving up 6 runs over 3 innings. vs. Trinity The RTCA Lady Crusaders returned to the field with renewed determination on Tuesday, and it paid off with a decisive 12-3 win over Trinity Christian. The offense was firing on all cylindersas they pulled away from Trinity. In the top of the first inning RTCA took the early lead when Annabelle Coe came through with an RBI double. Mary Frances Stanley added an RBI single to put RTCA on top 2-0. In the second inning they added another run on a ball hit by Kinsley Kennedy.

In the third inning Annabelle Coe and Braylin Pittman each drove in a run to extend the lead to 5-0, and in the fourth inning they added 2 more runs on a hit by Chesney Burch as they took a 7-0 lead.

Trinity finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with 2 runs to close it to 7-2, but RTCA broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with 5 more runs. Burch doubled in a run, and was followed by Coe with an RBI single. Kennedy brought in 2 more runs with a solid single, and Elin Haygood got a bases loaded walk to add another run. That gave RTCA a 12-2 lead.

Trinity added 1 more run in the bottom of the sixth, but RTCA took the win, 12-3.

Coe led the way for RTCA as she went 4-4 on the day with 3 RBI's. Chesney Burch also had a strong day at the plate, collecting three hits in five at-bats, including two doubles.

In the circle, Annabelle Coe started for the RTCA Lady Crusaders and was effective, surrendering 4 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 1 and walking 1. The Trinity Christian pitcher gave up 18 hits and 12 runs (11 earned) over 6 innings.

This week RTCA was at Vidalia Heritage Academy on Tuesday after press time. They will be back in action on Thursday at home against Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m.
