Mt Vernon Garden Club Resumes Meetings

As the hot days of summer fade away and looking forward to the cool crisp air of fall, the members of the Mt. Vernon Garden Club returned to regular meetings at the Student Center of what is now Brewton-Parker Christian University.
The first meeting of the season was held on Tuesday, September 9, with 13 members in attendance. Club President Linda Page called the meeting to order and introduced Michael Stanley who is the new Director of the Montgomery County Development Authority.
Member Susan Beard acknowledged September birthdays, along with those members that had birthdays during the summer hiatus. Members also discussed the monthly flowers, which are the aster and morning glory. Beard gave a devotional that was very patriotic and heartfelt, mentioning the time of day that our country was attacked 4 different times on September 11, 2001. Immediately after, there was much more patriotism apparent in our country.
Following a buffet luncheon, Stanley was asked to share information about himself and his family with the members, along with any news about any projects the development authority is working on at the present time. The goal of the development authority is to promote economic growth in the county while supporting existing businesses.
A business meeting followed with each committee giving updates.
The next meeting is October 14.
