Wheeler County Tax Commissioner To Be Determined on July 15

Wheeler County voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot for their choice for the next Tax Commissioner on Tuesday, July 15, as the county holds the special run-off election.

Last month, four citizens vied for the vacated Tax Commissioner’s seat, as former Tax Commissioner Kim Clark resigned from the position on March 1 to take a job in the private sector. Logger Bradley Davis, Medical Assistant Whitney Clark Griffin, Project Manager Curtis Hay, and Mortician Marvin Howard all faced off to determine who would fulfill the remainder of Clark’s term, which ends in 2029.

Though Griffin and Hay received the most votes, neither candidate was able to clinch the necessary 50% of ballots cast to earn the seat, as Griffin received 31.20% of the votes (293 votes), and Curtis Hay garnered 32.16% (302 votes) – a margin of only nine votes.

The pair will now face off in a run-off election, which will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. For information regarding polling locations or the election, call the Wheeler County Board of Elections at (912) 568-0095, or visit mvp.sos. ga.gov.
