Lyons 14U Girls Are State Runner-up
The 14U GRPA State Softball Tournament was held in Vidalia at the Ed Smith Complex with Lyons coming away as the State Runner-up. Vidalia came in fourth place.
VRD vs. Grady Co.
Vidalia got a close win in the first game of the tournament on Tuesday of last week against Grady County.
Grady put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning, but Vidalia came through to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a hit by Britleigh Sharpton. Vidalia pulled ahead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI hit by Jada Fountain, giving VRD the win, 2-1.
LRD vs. Glynn Co.
Lyons played their first game of the tournament against Glynn County, and rolled to a run rule victory. It was an easy win for Lyons as they took the game, 21-0.
VRD vs. Colquitt Co.
Up next for Vidalia was Colquitt County. It was a close game, but Vidalia fell by just one run. Vidalia opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning on a ball hit by Chloe Beck. Beck came through with a two-run double in the third inning to push the VRD lead to 3-0.
But in the fourth, Colquitt plated four runs to take a 4-3 lead over VRD. Vidalia answered with three more in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to build up an 8-4 lead. Colquitt rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to score five runs and take the win, 9-8, over Vidalia.
LRD vs. Emanuel
Lyons took on Emanuel County in their next game, and struggled at the plate, as they couldn't get any runs across. Emanuel took the win over Lyons, 12-0.
LRD vs. Grady Co.
Lyons took a one-run win over Grady County in the losers' bracket to keep their run alive. Lyons pulled out the win, 7-6, over Grady.
VRD vs. Glynn Co.
Vidalia rolled to a win over Glynn County in the losers' bracket. Jacqueline Mezquititla struck out 10 batters in the circle for Vidalia as they took the win over Glynn County.
Mezquititla drove in the first two runs of the game as well in the first inning for VRD. Kendall Ledford brought in a run with a walk, and then a sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 4-0. Blayke Sasser drove in two more runs for VRD and then one scored on an error as Vidalia took a 7-0 lead in the first inning.
Vidalia scored two more runs in the third inning on the way to a 9-0 win over Glynn County.
LRD vs. VRD
This rivalry game was all Lyons as they pulled away early from Vidalia. Lyons plated six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. They added three more in the third and three in the fourth on the way to a 12-0 run rule victory.
LRD vs. Colquitt Co.
It was a high scoring game with Lyons taking the win by just one run. Lyons pulled out the victory over Colquitt County, 13-12, to advance to the State Championship.
LRD vs. Emanuel Co.
Championship Lyons gave it their all but came up just short as Emanuel County took the win, 7-6, over Lyons. With the win Emanuel took the State Championship, with Lyons coming in as State Runner-up.
