During the recent council meeting on Tuesday, May 6, Mayor Willis NeSmith Jr. and the Lyons City Council recognized City Clerk Lynn Rowland and Assistant City Clerk Chaquandra Hudson in honor of Municipal Clerks Week.
Professional Municipal Clerks Week is celebrated nationally on May 4-10. The professional municipal clerk is recognized as the nation’s oldest public servant, as they provide the professional link between the citizens, the local governing bodies, and agencies of government at other levels.
To recognize Rowland and Hudson, Mayor Ne-Smith issued the women an official city proclamation, which highlighted their dedication to the city and the kindness which they show citizens and their coworkers. He emphasized this compassion, as he stated, “Lynn Rowland is now a proud grandmother and continues to serve the City of Lyons with grace, integrity, and a familial spirit that resonates throughout City Hall. Affectionately called 'Ma' by her colleagues, she has fostered a sense of family among staff while setting an example of excellence, loyalty, and service in local government. [She] is not only a qualified and experienced city clerk, she is a leader, a mentor, and a model public servant whose impact has shaped the City of Lyons and inspired all who know her.”
Rowland has served as the Lyons City Clerk for 25 years, and has recently been joined in the job by Hudson, who was hired as her assistant. Along with the resolution, the pair were given gifts as tokens of the city’s appreciation.
During the business portion of the meeting, the Council passed two ordinance amendments to address guidelines for the construction of mobile home parks within the city. These new ordinances are available for review on the city’s website.
Council members reappointed Corina Florez to the Lyons Housing Authority for a second term at the Authority’s request. Her new term will end June 5, 2030.
The next meeting of the Lyons City Council will be Tuesday, June 3, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers within Lyons City Hall.
