On Monday of last week at Vidalia High School, Ryker Hyers signed his letter of intent to play collegiate tennis. Hyers will be heading to Lagrange College. This is the first tennis signing in nearly 20 years for an Indian, and Coach Wade McLeod hopes that it may help to open the doors for more in the near future.

Hyers was a true team player for the Indians as he moved into whatever position that he was needed to help the team. From 1st and 2nd doubles, into 3rd singles, he made his mark and helped his team into the playoffs and the Sweet 16.

Hyers said, “Feels good to get this chance. Lagrange was a nice place, not too big or small, and just felt like I fit there. I got along with the coaches and some of the team that I was able to meet, got to tour the campus and it was nice. I want to thank all of my coaches in all the sports, my family, and my friends for all of the support.”

VHS Coach Wade McLeod added, “Ryker has done a great job for us. This year at one point he had won five matches in a row, and that really made a difference for us getting into the playoffs. He has a good serve and a very strong forehand. He is still working on that backhand, but he will get it and he is going to be a very good tennis player. Lagrange is getting a good young man, and we are just happy to see him have this opportunity.”

Tiffany Hutto, his mother stated, “We have loved watching him play all of these years. He is excited to play at the next level. We talked to the coach at Lagrange and he was really relatable, and we liked what we saw. The campus was beautiful, and we are excited to go watch him play.”
