Wheeler County Elementary Students Enjoy Science and Baseball at Truist Park

Wheeler County Elementary students recently took a field trip to Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. The trip was part of a special Science Education Day hosted by Truist and the Atlanta Braves, bringing together students from across the region for a unique blend of learning and fun.

Before the game, students were treated to an engaging science presentation by “The Science Machine,” Michael Green, who dazzled the audience with his energetic and educational pregame show. The event aimed to spark curiosity in STEM while making science entertaining and accessible.

After the science show, students watched the Atlanta Braves face off against the St. Louis Cardinals. While cheering on the teams, the students also got to indulge in classic ballpark treats, adding to the day's excitement.

This field trip also celebrated the school’s top readers. There were no strikeouts for these dedicated students, who truly “stepped up to the plate” for literacy. The MVRs (Most Valuable Readers) — the top reader from each reading class — were recognized for their outstanding achievements in reading.

The MVRs included: 1st grade: Bax Page, Cameron Vickery, Jaxson Pope, and Kam’Bria Wilson 2nd grade: Maite Martinez, Khazi Gibbons, Kendrick Pound, and Zachary Copeland 3rd grade: Cammeeio Fowler, Heidi Henderson, Kyndal Bell, and Jo’myiah Pound 4th grade: Luis Mendoza, Alyxandreya Brown, Eli McCarty, and Drake Williams 5th grade: Kenny Goheen, Kristopher Davis, Brody Beasley, and Reid Haymons A huge thank you to the teachers, chaperones, and the Braves for making this an unforgettable day of learning and fun! The experience combined education, celebration, and inspiration — a true home run for Wheeler County Elementary.
