JROTC Thunderbolt Regimen Colonel and Montgomery County High School Student Jasmine Nichols was recently honored with the prestigious JROTC Camp Leadership Award.
Last week, on June 1-5, JROTC Thunderbolt Regimen cadets – made up of students from Montgomery County, Toombs County, Treutlen County, and Vidalia High Schools – traveled to the Black Creek Scout Reservation in Sylvania, Georgia, where there participated in numerous activities, such as canoeing, swimming, rock wall climbing, and X-Games. The cadets were challenged to test their limits and discover new strengths through strenuous and exciting challenges, and took on unique experiences, like taking to the skies in an Army Black- continued from page
hawk helicopter, navigating fishing triumphs, soaring on zip lines, practicing their marksmanship skills, and mastering archery.
During the camp, cadets were able to earn medals, which they will don on their uniforms throughout the rest of their time in JROTC. These medals served as a testament to the cadets’ dedication and perseverance, and represent their completion of the events.
Colonel Nichols earned a unique recognition, as she was awarded the Camp Leadership Award out of all the cadets in attendance. To earn this award, Colonel Nichols appeared before a panel of five retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Majors, where she discussed a broad range of topics related to JROTC, leadership, and current events – a task that is challenging for even active duty soldiers. Colonel Nichols received a trophy and a medal to commemorate the honor.
Both the Southeastern Early College and Career Academy (SECCA), who houses the JROTC Thunderbolt Regimen, and Montgomery County Schools emphasized their pride in Nichols’ accomplishment, as they congratulated her on a job well done.

TAKING TO THE SKIES – Members of the JROTC Thunderbolt Regimen were able to fly in an U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter during their time at Black Creek Scout Reserve.
